I recently shared7 fantastic powder foundationsthat work really well for mature skin. It's important to have a foundation that applies quickly, but isn't too heavy, looks too powdery, or makes your skin look dry. I'm definitely looking for powder foundations that can be worn all day without crumbling or giving the t-zone an oily look. That can be a big challenge, especially if you're in your 40s like me. Here are the best powder foundations I've found so far! I'll share them in order of pure coverage to most comprehensive coverage.
Milani Conceal und Perfect Shine Proof Puder: This powder foundation costs $10.99 for 0.42 ounces. There are 9 shades and I am nude in shade 2. This contains lily extract to tighten pores and keep your skin fresh. It also contains bamboo powder to absorb oil and really keep you shine-free for a long time. They claim this offers medium to full coverage - I disagree. I think this gives sheer to medium, almost medium coverage depending on how I apply it. The less dense your brush, the less coverage you'll get with these powder foundations. To achieve the greatest possible opacity, I usually use a sponge. I have a video on applying powder foundation that you can findHere.
This has a really nice matte finish on the skin that looks natural and lasts all day. I do notice throughout the day that my natural oils come through so it's a bit oily on my t-zone, although it claims it's "shine-proof" so I don't necessarily agree, at least not without blotting. I have combination skin that gets oily in the T-zone. I'm pretty normal everywhere else, but I can get some facial dryness. Since this has such sheer coverage, I like to use this particular powder foundation over a truly sheer foundation, tinted moisturizer, or BB or CC cream. On a day when I just want to slightly even out my skin, I use this for a mattifying look.
I think this is a really good drugstore option. I've tried many drugstore powder foundations and haven't had much success. Most don't apply or look good or wear well throughout the day. This is one I really like for a nice medium to medium coverage powder foundation. It's versatile for me and gives me a nice natural matte finish. I think if you have normal to oily skin you would like this. If you have dry skin I don't think this would be the best choice for you as it can get some dryness when I have that, but normal to oily skin - I think this is a good choice.
Shiseido Synchro Skin Self-Refreshing Custom Finish Powder Foundation: This powder foundation costs $45 for 0.31 ounces. There are 16 shades and I have the shade 240 Quartz. The packaging is a bit chunky so not the most wearable foundation. This contains technology that protects your face from oil, sweat, moisture and wrinkles during facial movement. This has an almost creamy texture and I would say this gives light to just under medium coverage. This feels really light and gives a nice, natural finish. It balances the skin nicely while providing some coverage and it's just very flattering and smoothing all over. This is a powder foundation that allows my natural oils to shine through during the day, as do I personallyAgainsometimes have to dab with it.
I think you'll really enjoy this one if you have a dry skin combo and want something flattering, especially if you have some fine lines. If you have extremely oily skin I would not recommend these. But for everyone else, I think this is a real winner.
As I'm going in order of coverage, some of you might find this next one a little odd, but let me finishMAC Studio Fix Powder Plus Foundation: That's $36 for 0.52 ounces. There are 48 shades and I have shade NC25. I can also use NC30 in summer. This is a very smooth powder foundation that can take you from a sheer to a medium full, natural looking coverage. This powder foundation is very customizable. When I use a brush I get a nice transparent finish that balances my skin nicely. I can also build it up with a sponge and go from medium to medium opacity. It doesn't look powdery or heavy and looks gorgeous on my pores. It smoothes my skin, evens everything out, gives good coverage and gives a natural matte finish that looks beautiful.
It feels very light on the skin, so I rarely have to dab with it during the day...even when I do, it never looks greasy. Sometimes that's a problem for many powder foundations. In my t-zone where I get oily, especially with the hot weather here in New Orleans, many powder foundations start to break down in my t-zone. They will either wear out completely or just start to look really greasy. This is always reliable as it is one of the longest lasting powder foundations I have ever tried. It also requires no maintenance during the day. I think anyone with any skin type would do fine with this powder foundation.
I 100% think people with normal to oily skin would love this. It also never accentuated my dry areas when I had them. I just think that's beautiful and I think there's a misconception that it's going to look heavy. It really doesn't. This is one of my favorite powder foundations of all time and has been for many years.
Fenty Pro Filter Soft Matte Powder Foundation: This retails for $36 for 0.32 ounces. There are 50 shades and I'm in shade 230. As the name suggests, this is meant to provide a soft matte finish. In addition, it should be just as sweat, wrinkle and moisture resistant as the Shiseido. Where it differs from the Shiseido is that I can get light to medium coverage with the Fenty. This one is very smooth and works well on all areas of my face: the dry areas and the oily areas. It looks just gorgeous and really smooths out the pores. It feels light and lasts a long time. It also doesn't emphasize oiliness, shine, greasyness or dryness when I have that. I don't need a setting spray to keep it looking good all day.
For many powder foundations to last long on my skin, I usually need a foundation and a setting spray. I'll do this for longer life if I'm having a particularly long day. But for this one in this blog post, I don't have to do that. I would like to say that this would work well for all skin types because for me it has worked well on all areas of my skin no matter how my skin has worked. This gives a matte finish which I love. I would almost say if you have dry skin you might want to go with Shiseido or one of the powder foundations I'm going to talk about in a moment.
Just to be safe I will say if you have oily to almost dry skin, perhaps with no surface dryness, this would work for you. Every time I've worn this I've just been amazed at how beautiful it looks and how long it lasts, especially since it's a powder foundation that just doesn't look or feel like a powder foundation. When I first tried this a long time ago I thought it would be harder than it is. But it's just beautiful.
My next favorite is thisMakeup Forever Matte Velvet Blurring Powder Foundation. It costs $38 for 0.38 ounces. There are 30 shades and I have shade Y305. Well that, like the Shiseido, does not have my favorite packaging. They're just a bit bulky if you want some portability. I read somewhere that Scott Barnes used this at JLO at the Super Bowl which says something about that right?! This is said to be an all-over blur powder with a lifelike matte finish and wear for up to 12 hours. I don't think it's full coverage but I doAgainthink it's buildable from medium to medium full coverage. It also gives me a natural soft matte finish that smooths my skin. Plus, it looks great on the pores.
I don't have to touch up much with it, it's lightweight and wears great all day. It kind of gives me everything I need in a powder foundation and it looks great on my skin no matter what my skin is doing, even when it's dry. If I'm having a really, really long day, I use a setting spray and primer. Regardless of your skin type, I think this is one that would work really well for you. It's really beautiful and flattering, you couldn't ask for more.
L’Oreal Infallible 24HR Fresh Wear Foundation in Puderform: This retails for $14.99 for 0.31 ounces. There are 12 shades and I have shade 130 True Beige. This is said to offer full matte coverage and be water and sweat resistant. Again, I disagree with the claim of coverage, I think this offers medium to medium coverage at best, which is fine with me. On a daily basis, I really don't feel like I need more than medium to full coverage. If there's more, that's great. But I'm fine with medium to full. This gives a lovely natural matte finish that looks and feels really nice on the pores.
I don't need a setting spray for this powder foundation to stay beautiful all day. It is also wonderful to wear on long days. Now when I was dry I had to do a bit of work blotting up those little flakes with a sponge so the dry patches weren't accentuated. So I would say this is a really great powder foundation for those of you with normal to oily skin as long as you don't have superficial dryness. If you have dry skin I would skip this one, but for normal to oily skin you might really like it.
So beautiful for mature skin, this powder foundation is such a hidden gem. I rarely hear anyone talk about it. this is thatWander Beauty Wanderlust Powder Foundation. It's $40 for .31 ounces. There are 11 shades and I am in the medium shade. It contains aloe leaf extract to hydrate skin and restore suppleness and hibiscus flower extract to even skin tone and increase the appearance of skin elasticity. So this is supposed to be very good for mature skin. This is designed to be moisturizing, lightweight, silky smooth and give a natural matte finish. It's also talc free.
My skin feels really good when I wear them. It's very light and feels wonderful on my skin. I would say this gives medium to full coverage and a natural matte finish that I think will look beautiful on any skin type. It's not a matte matte, it unclogs pores, it lasts a long time on my skin, I don't get overly shiny with it during the day and it's very finely ground and smooth. It's great for all skin types and a really overlooked powder foundation that's fantastic for mature skin.
